After 15 seasons, Jimmy Tillette’s out at Samford

Samford made a significant change Tuesday, firing longtime coach Jimmy Tillette.

Tillette had coached the Bulldogs the last 15 years and was the winningest coach in school history, going 229-219, including a couple of trips to the NCAA tournament in 1999 and 2000.

But Samford just wrapped up its sixth consecutive losing season at 11-19.

Tillette “has been a beacon for our university and for this athletic department for a number of years, but we ultimately feel that it is in the program’s best interest to go in another direction,” said Athletic director Martin Newton.
