Watching March Madness at work might be tough this year

Bad news for those stuck at work during the first two days of the NCAA tournament. Watching the games might be more difficult than normal.

Your company’s IT department could be planning ahead to block, ban or cause the games slow to a crawl. According to this story by Allison Linn, four in 10 IT departments monitor employees who try to watch the games on their computers.

Turns out the “boss button” won’t help you.

Those surveyed departments say it’s not because they hate basketball. They hate unproductive employees. From the story:

According to the Modis survey, four in 10 respondents said streaming content from the annual basketball tournament has had some impact on the company’s network, such as slowing or even shutting it down.

Most IT professionals surveyed said they block streaming content to make sure everyone can do their regular work without network disruptions. But the majority also said they do so to keep people from getting too distracted at work.

Better head to BW3. Or just pony up the $4 to watch it on your phone.
