State of Kansas rolls into field of 68, and other tourney tidbits

Here’s your oddities post for the NCAA tournament. This stuff doesn’t mean much when it comes to picking winners, but it’d good fodder for posts.

The state of Kansas landed all three of its D-I programs in the field of 68 for the first time since 1988 (the year Danny Manning led Kansas to the title, beating K-State along the way), as Kansas (2 seed), Wichita State (5 seed) and Kansas State (8 seed) all made the cut.

The Sunflower State didn’t place the most teams in, though. That’d be North Carolina, with six five: UNC (1 seed), Duke (2), N.C. State (11), Davidson (13) and UNC Asheville (16). Also notable? Kentucky placed four of its six D-I schools in the tourney: Kentucky (1 seed), Louisville (4), Murray State (6) and Western Kentucky (16).

But here’s my favorite tidbit, courtesy of ESPN: The cities of Nashville and Cincinnati both placed two teams in the field. Cincinnati (6 seed) and Xavier (10), and Vanderbilt (5) and Belmont (14) from Nashville.

There are more from ESPN, including stat oddities, mascots and more.
