J’Covan Brown ensures Texas knocks off Iowa State

Texas spent all season playing like a team capable of winning an NCAA tournament game. Might actually get a chance to prove it now.

A 71-65 win against Iowa State in the Big 12 quarterfinals Thursday night boosted the Longhorns to 20-12 (the 13th consecutive season they’ve hit that plateau) and in good shape to extend their streak of Big Dance appearances to 14 straight.

Though … beating Missouri in the semifinals on Friday would be the real crème de siècle. After all, it’s not like Texas has a slew of impressive wins. The rest of the tournament bubble has the same issue.

ANYWAY, the ‘Horns might pull off a win if J’Covan Brown comes up with another big game. The 6-1 junior (the Big 12’s leading scorer) dropped 23 points on Iowa State, including a 3-point play in the final 40 seconds that helped beat the No. 25 Cyclones.

They’ve come up short twice this season against the Tigers, losing by 11 in Columbia and by one at home. Can’t wait to see what’s in store for round 3.
