Miami guard Durand Scott has been suspended for tonight’s ACC quarterfinal matchup with Florida State.
According to Jeff Goodman of CBSSports.com, Scott’s suspension is similar to the suspension of Reggie Johnson a week ago. He received impermissible benefits while the Hurricanes were being coached by Frank Haith and the NCAA has deemed him ineligible.
Scott is a major loss for the Hurricanes. He’s averaging 12.9 ppg and 3.1 apg, numbers that became all the more important later in the season as Malcolm Grant struggled. More importantly, however, Miami has not yet solidified their NCAA Tournament standing. If they lose to FSU, they may not be in the NCAA Tournament.
Miami put out a statement saying that they would be “Immediately” seeking Scott’s reinstatement.
We’ll update this post as more information comes available.
