Its Bloody Friday in the Big Ten.

Before the Big Ten Tournament’s quarterfinals are even halfway over, we’ve already had a sixth of the league’s head coaches fired. Earlier this morning, it was Bruce Weber that got the axe. This afternoon it was Nebraska head coach Doc Sadler, who was fired after going 12-18 and just 4-14 in his sixth-season in Lincoln, the first for Nebraska in the Big Ten.

“I understand this business,” Sadler told the Lincoln Journal-Star yesterday. “Coach Osborne has to do what he thinks is in the best interest of Nebraska basketball. And whatever that is, I am going to support him 100 percent.”

“But I want people to know I’ve made a pretty big commitment in this deal, too.”

A few weeks ago, a Nebraska fan wrote a heartfelt and intelligent letter to the Nebraska decision makers in an effort to spare Doc his spare. His point? No coach is going to succeed without the university investing in and making an effort to get better at basketball. The fan was right.

Hopefully, Nebraska’s next coach is aware of that.
