Winners

Seton Hall: The Pirates picked up an impressive 79-47 win over Providence in the first round of the Big East tournament on Tuesday night. Beating Providence isn’t exactly a marquee victory for the Pirates, but given what had just happened -- losing to 28 by DePaul on the last day of the regular season -- the Pirates (20-11) needed to make a statement. The next thing they need to do is pick up a win. They’ll get a chance tomorrow against Louisville. I don’t think it is necessarily a must-win, as the Pirates will still have a chance to get in without it, but a win should lock up a bid for SHU.

Connecticut: Covered the Huskies here.

Dayton: The Flyers got a win they needed to have, knocking off George Washington 67-50 in the opening round of the Atlantic 10 tournament. It sets up a matchup with the Flyers (20-11) against Xavier on Friday that may end up being a knockout game. Both teams are sitting right on the bubble’s cut line.

St. Joe’s: Like Dayton, the Hawks picked up a game that they needed to have by throttling Charlotte. St. Joe’s (20-12) still has work left to do in the form of a quarterfinal matchup with St. Bonaventure on Friday, and that may not even be enough; the Bonnies are good, but a win over them doesn’t carry a ton of weight on a tournament resume.

Everyone: Penn lost to Princeton, meaning that Harvard will be the Ivy League’s auto-bid. That also means that they won’t have to play Penn in a playoff. The Crimson had a good chance of getting an at-large bid.
