Long Beach State’s in our latest NCAA tournament projections, but the 49ers’ hopes for a stress-free Selection Sunday took a hit on Monday.

Guard Larry Anderson, the team’s second-leading scorer (14.0 ppg) is doubtful to play in the Big West tournament this week because of a knee sprain suffered during a 77-74 loss at Cal State Fullerton. He was named to the All-Big West first team and was the conference’s defensive player of the year.

That means Long Beach, which hasn’t been to the NCAA tournament since 2007, will be trying to secure the automatic bid to the NCAA tournament without a key player.

(The loss to Fullerton, the 49ers’ first in Big West play, also didn’t help their at-large hopes.)

Long Beach (22-8) says Anderson saw doctors on Monday and says his prognosis is good for a return next week. The 49ers just hope it’s not for the NIT.
