A note for your bracket: Avoid picking Notre Dame

No. 20 Notre Dame couldn’t find its shot. Again. That spells trouble next month.

The Irish missed 14 of 17 3-point attempts and got drubbed 59-41 by No. 11 Georgetown Monday night. That comes just two days after they missed 27 of 31 3-pointers in Saturday’s loss to unranked St. John’s. They went cold, but it’s not like the Irish are lights out from deep (33 percent on the season, average among D-I teams).

That should provide significant pause to anyone considering advancing Notre Dame in their NCAA tournament bracket.

And yes, Georgetown had plenty to do with it. The Hoyas were incredibly efficient, didn’t allow anything easy on defense and we’re obviously pumped for Senior Night. But this is about the Irish as much as it’s about Notre Dame.

Mike Brey’s team had been playing fantastic ball most of the month, winning eight in a row and staying on Syracuse’s heels in the Big East race. But that’s as good as Notre Dame can do. For example: If the Irish do somehow get a five seed like they do here, that’s a gift.

If there’s even a hint of being upset when the seeds are announced, don’t fight it. Just cross off the Irish.
