Game of the Night: No. 9 Baylor @ Texas, 9 p.m. (ESPN)
Baylor suffered their first upset at the hands of Kansas State over the weekend, fully dropping them out of the consciousness of the country when we discuss the best teams in the nation. Now two days later, the Bears find themselves heading on the road to face a Texas team that had righted their ship and won four in a row before losing to the Oklahoma State Fighting Keiton Pages on Saturday afternoon. That is what makes this game so important. Baylor needs to bounce back from the loss and prove to the country -- and to themselves -- that they are still an elite team with a road win. Texas, on the other hand, is looking to bolster a resume that currently has them sitting on the NCAA Tournament’s cut line. The Longhorns are probably not going to go into Phog Allen and beat the Jayhawks in the last game of the season and neither Texas Tech nor Oklahoma is going to provide much at-large substance. This could end up being the game that makes or breaks UT’s at-large chances.
Who’s getting upset?: USC-Upstate @ Belmont, 8 p.m.
USC-Upstate already owns a win over Belmont. They are coming off of a thrilling, last-second win at Lipscomb. And while they are currently sitting two games behind the Bruins for first place in the Atlantic Sun, this win would keep their slim hopes alive for a regular season title. Belmont better be ready to play.
Mid-major matchup of the night: Texas Southern @ Mississippi Valley State, 7 p.m. (ESPNU)
MVSU has already clinched at least a share of the SWAC title, sitting four games up on Southern and Texas Southern with just four games left in the regular season. They haven’t lost yet in league play, which means that they can probably feel pretty confident about winning the league title. But TSU has won their last three games and already took the Delta Devils to overtime once this season. A win would keep them moving in the right direction with the league tournament bearing down.
Be sure to keep an eye on
UConn @ Villanova, 7 p.m. (ESPN): While these may be two of the most disappointing teams in the Big East, Villanova is trending in the right direction while UConn has already had their obituary written a number of times this season. The Huskies still have an outside shot of making the dance if they turn their season around, but does anyone expect that to happen?
