There are no words for shots like these.
That was Manhattan’s Emmy Andujar hitting a buzzer-beating 3-pointer that capped a wild comeback victory against Iona Thursday night, 75-72.
Manhattan (11-7) had trailed the MAAC’s top team by 17 points with just under eight minutes left, but a 21-4 run gave Andujar his chance. (I’d call it a small one, too. It’s not like the kid was wide open.)
How does that happen? Let’s turn to John Templon of NY Buckets for some answers.
He runs down the final eight minutes, detailing how Iona guarded, what Manhattan did to attack and what it does to the league race. Though this quote from Iona coach Tim Cluess also sums it up well.
“I think our guys took it way too complacent and they thought the game was over again and it’s a struggle with this team keeping their concentration and their motivation,” he said. “We’re really struggling with it and I have to do a better job of finding a way to motivate them better than I have been because this is happening way too often.”
