Iowa State seemed ready to luck out against No. 9 Missouri.

The Cyclones, off to a 2-0 Big 12 start for the first time in years and winners of eight straight, were giving the Tigers all they could handle Wednesday night and got a nice boost at halftime when senior Scott Christopherson nailed a half-court heave at the buzzer for a 38-36 lead.

Fast forward about 35 seconds in this video highlight from Big 12 network to see the shot.

And when two Tigers fouled out, leaving Frank Haith’s team with just five regular-rotation players to use, Iowa State had its chance.

It just couldn’t capitalize. Missouri’s Marcus Denmon hit four free throws in the final 21 seconds to seal the 76-69 win. Blame the Cyclones’ poor play in the paint. They were outscored 40-20 and outrebounded 38-27 by a team with just two big men.

Needed some effort to go with that luck.

“It was a nice momentum boost. It would have felt a lot better if we would have taken care of the glass,” Christopherson said.
