Failed marriage proposal at UCLA game: Real or fake?

spt-120103-marriageproposal

Mike Miller

UCLA’s season in the L.A. Sports Arena – Pauley Pavilion is being renovated – isn’t going so well. The Bruins have lost to Loyola Marymount, Middle Tennessee and are just 4-3 thus far with seven games left.

It’s not going so well for some fans, either.

This video from UCLA’s Dec. 23 win over Richmond shows a couple sitting courtside when a “Mistletoe Cam” stops on them. But rather than kiss, the man does this:

Yeah. Twitter caught word of the proposal that night (CBS’s Gary Parrish was noteworthy among the tweets for leading the discussion. Seriously, it was easily his favorite topic of the night.), but it took a few weeks for that video to surface.

But as it made the rounds Tuesday, one question inevitably surfaced: Was it real or fake?

A UCLA spokesman told Los Angeles Times reporter Baxter Holmes that it wasn’t staged, yet it doesn’t have the same feel as this botched proposal:

It seems more like this one, where the woman pauses and it gets dragged out a bit:

Guess it could be worse. It could be this proposal:

Maybe I’m just hoping it’s fake. Otherwise, that guy had one horrid holiday.

(Big thanks to Jeff Eisenberg for the video)
