Tuesday’s slate and what to watch

spt-111219-butler

Mike Miller

Two of Tuesday’s most likely upsets – N.C. State vs. St. Bonaventure and Ohio at Northern Iowa – aren’t on TV. Hard to believe given all the channels out there, but that’s how it goes.

Not to worry. There’s still plenty on.

Butler at Gonzaga, 9 p.m. (ESPN2)
The Bulldogs (5-6) are coming off their biggest win of the season, a 67-65 thriller against Purdue. The timing couldn’t be better – because Gonzaga handled Arizona fairly easily over the weekend. Butler has guys who can matchup with Robert Sacre and Elias Harris, but the question is how long Khyle Marshall and Andrew Smith can stay on the floor. That’ll be crucial.

Oakland at Arizona, 8 p.m. (FS Arizona, FCS Pacific, FS Detroit)
If we’re lucky, this’ll be an 80-possession game where both teams hit their stride on offense and connect often from beyond the arc. Both will certainly try for that, but pulling it off is another story. The Grizzlies’ soft defense will probably accommodate the Wildcats’ needs, but this might be one of those games when Arizona’s athleticism pays off.

Buffalo at BYU, 9 p.m. (BYUtv)
Here’s your chance to watch Buffalo’s Javon McCrea, a 6-6 do-everything wing who’ll probably spend much of the season just under the national radar as a breakout player. Well, it’s your chance if you can find BYUtv. Also, the Cougars are fun to watch. Again. Just ask Baylor.

Lamar at Ohio State, 8:30 p.m. (BTN)
When Jared Sullinger’s healthy, the Buckeyes are damn good. But Tuesday won’t be that day. He’s still nursing a bad back and a tendon injury to his left foot. But OSU coach Thad Matta doesn’t want Sullinger to get rusty, thus he’s playing against Lamar.
