Monday’s slate and what to watch

Mike Miller

Is it a coincidence that one of the rare good Monday Night Football games (Steelers at 49ers) comes on a night when the college hoops is kinda weak and there isn’t anything of note on ESPN2?

Yes, that’s a rhetorical question.

(All times ET; TV info courtesy of HDSportsGuide.com)

Wyoming at Denver, 8 p.m. (Root Sports, FCS)
This may not be the night’s best game, but tough. I grew up rooting for the Pokes and am glad Larry Shyatt’s back in Laramie, getting Wyoming (11-1) to play hard and play defense once again. Tonight’s trip to Denver is by far their toughest game yet. Hey, if that’s not enough, maybe watching Larry Nance Junior in action is.

Cleveland State at South Florida, 7 p.m. (Big East Network, SNY, CST)
The Vikings have the nation’s nastiest defense. No team forces a higher percentage of turnovers, which more than makes up for that so-so offense. The only reason it’ll be close is because USF is at home.

Davidson vs. Kansas, in Kansas City, 9 p.m. (ESPNU)
Only notable for the early return of Tyshawn Taylor. Dude had knee surgery eight days ago but is expected to play tonight. Modern medicine is a miracle.

Belmont at Marshall, 7 p.m.
Do your best to track down a link for this one. TV’s missing out on yet another game to showcase the pressing, running Bruins. This is yet another game where Rick Byrd’s team will be tested and likely lose – Marshall’s beaten Cincy and Iona – but I’m curious to see it nonetheless. Gotta take more notes for my bracket.

Creighton at Tulsa, 8 p.m.
Know what this season is missing most? More TV appearances for Doug McDermott. He and the Bluejays are 8-1 and feature an offense any hoops fan would love. Here’s a great chance to grab their third non-conference road victory.
