Kansas expects Taylor to play just 8 days after knee surgery

We knew Tyshawn Taylor was tough. But this is ridiculous.

Kansas’ senior point guard has surgery last week after playing 35 minutes on a torn meniscus in his right knee during a win against Ohio State. He was supposed to miss at least three weeks.

Or one week. You know, because knee surgery is a breeze.

Coach Bill Self told the Lawrence Journal-World that Taylor is expected to play Monday against Davidson, eight days after his surgery. (Self says Thomas Robinson returned from the same injury after a similar period of time last season.)

He won’t play a lot, but Self seems interested to see how Taylor’s knee holds up. Well, and also for the sake of ensuring a little Jayhawks chemistry. Self can’t be excited by the thought of having his do-everything guard miss any time.

From the paper:

Self said Taylor shot on Friday “pretty much full speed. We waited to see if there was any swelling, and there wasn’t. He practiced yesterday some, but only half court. We waited to see today if there was much swelling, and there wasn’t. We’re going to let him go up and down today a little bit — 10 minutes, 15 minutes — and see how he does there. We’ll wait and see tomorrow if there’s any swelling. But if there’s not, there’s no reason he can’t play some tomorrow.”

Connor Teahan’s expected to start in Taylor’s place.
