So much for a ‘two-and-through’ NBA draft rule

spt-111129-billyhunter

I had such hopes for a “Two-and-Through” rule.

(sighs)

It’s not to be, I guess.

Lost amid the flurry of good college basketball games and NBA news the last two days was the final details of the NBA’s new labor deal, which maintains the current “one-and-done” rule for the NBA draft. From the Wall Street Journal:

But with the revenue split and system issues taking so much time, there was little opportunity to change the non-economic issues. The draft age limit will remain 19 years at least through the 2012 draft — the league would have liked to go to 20, the players would like to abolish it entirely — and blood testing for human growth hormone won’t be implemented this season.

Maybe the precedent set by guys such as Harrison Barnes, Jared Sullinger, Terrence Jones and Perry Jones III this season will inspire future players to stick around for their sophomore seasons and give us college hoops fans some extra “wow” moments before they start making millions.

Hah. Just kidding. I’d take the money, too.
