Dewayne Dedmon’s right foot has remarkable healing powers

Dewayne Dedmon’s foot injury apparently healed really, really fast.

The school announced last Tuesday that a stress injury in the USC sophomore’s right foot could’ve forced him to miss up to six weeks. Except … he played 26 minutes in USC’s loss to Minnesota Saturday night. He even started.

USC coach Kevin O’Neill told the L.A. Times that Dedmon “didn’t look like he was in pain in any way,” and Dedmon told the paper that he felt “all right.”

OK then. Either Dedmon’s tougher than Tyler Durden or the doctors messed this one up.

Or maybe it’s just that the Trojans could really, really use a break right now. The Gophers dropped them to 4-5, while starting point guard Jio Fontan isn’t playing this season because of an injury. Without Dedmon, looming games against New Mexico, Georgia and Kansas will go down as Ls.

Sounds as if O’Neill’s resigned to this, too.

“There are going to be some days like this,” O’Neill told the Orange County Register. “It’s what happens when you have an investigation and penalties that wiped out two recruiting classes, and then have an injury on top of that that just decimates it.”

Could be worse. Could start snowing in L.A.
