Wednesday’s slate and what to watch

Once again, the ACC/Big Ten Challenge features the best college hoops games of the night. Yet once again, that’s something you already knew. And you’re probably even more delighted that Harrison Barnes will be playing (bum ankle and all) when North Carolina plays host to Wisconsin.

The rest of the night? Well, there’s still plenty to attract a fan.

UNLV at Santa Barbara, 10 p.m.
Better scour the web for a stream of this one. UNLV’s coming off the biggest win of the season, but coach Dave Rice swears his team is hardly primed for a letdown against the Gauchos. Not after UCSB beat the Rebels last season when the Rebels were 22-point favorites. And this time, Orlando Johnson and James Nunnally get to play at home. Rice better hope his guys come out gunning again.

Creighton at San Diego State, 10:30 p.m. (the mtn)
The Blue Jays are 5-0, but they’re only real test thus far came during an 80-70 win at UAB two weeks ago. This is a step up from the Blazers. The Aztecs (7-1) have already beaten USC, Long Beach State, Arizona and Santa Barbara. If Doug McDermott sees any easy shots against SDSU’s defense, it’ll be a surprise.

Notre Dame at Gonzaga, 11:15 p.m. (ESPN2)
The Irish are without forward Tim Abromaitis, who tore his ACL and is done for the season. How important is that? Put it this way – if the Zags don’t win this game, they deserve to get booed at home.

Drexel at St. Joe’s
It’s a Big 5 game. ‘nuff said.
