Monday’s slate and what to watch

Ready for a delicious hoops onslaught starting at midnight? Good. Because there aren’t many morsels to enjoy in the hours beforehand.

Monday’s loaded with games, but you might be better off getting a nap or two to stay up for the start of ESPN’s 24-hour hoops marathon, which kicks off with Washington State at Gonzaga. Rob already did the preview for all that, so I’m sticking with the other stuff.

(All times ET. TV info from HDSportsGuide.com)

Detroit at Notre Dame, 9 p.m. (ESPNU)
No Eli Holman, but the Titans still have a decent chance at pulling off the red-line upset to open the CBE Classic. Part of that’s because the Irish don’t have senior Tim Abromaitis (serving a bogus suspension), but also because Detroit guard Ray McCallum Jr. is a stud and Chase Simon and Nick Minnerath can score. Notre Dame better hope Eric Atkins can drop close to 30 again.

Oakland at Alabama, 8 p.m.
A pity this game’s not on TV. I’d love to watch Reggie Hamilton go against the Tide’s nasty defense. He led the Grizzlies’ high-scoring offense last year (85.5 ppg), but doesn’t have Keith Benson to pass to this time. That’s not a total loss given Hamilton’s talents. He’ll have to play out of his mind against Trevor Releford, Tony Mitchell & Co.

South Dakota State at Minnesota, 8 p.m. (BTBN)
A game for the newly engaged Matt Norlander, who happens to be Nate Wolters’ biggest fan. There’s lots to like about Wolters (32 and 11 in the Jackrabbits’ opener) but that also applies to Minnesota’s frontline. Dude. Those guys are huge!

Nebraska at USC, 10:30 p.m. (Primeticket)
Like defense? Here’s your game. If you get Primeticket, you can watch Dewayne Dedmon swat several Cornhuskers’ shots. That’s a guarantee.
