Much to Syracuse’s delight, DaJuan Coleman wanted to stay close to home. Turns out upstate New York is more appealing to the 2012 prospect than Lexington or Columbus.
Coleman, one of the top recruits in the class of 2012, announced Tuesday that he’ll stay in town and play for Jim Boeheim’s Orange. Choosing ‘Cuse over Kentucky and Ohio State wasn’t a huge surprise (he played with current Orange guard Brandon Triche in high school and has long favored the Orange), but it was crucial for Syracuse’s hoops future and their recruiting health.
Nobody wants to lose a local kid to another hoops power. This wasn’t one Boeheim could afford to miss.
As Jeff Borzello writes, the 6-9 power forward gives the Orange an instant impact player with the upside of a Derrick Coleman and an added recruiting pop.
Now, if only Boeheim knew what Fab Melo was doing …
