Louisville finally got the good word Friday – freshman Wayne Blackshear can play this season.
Cardinals coach Rick Pitino confirmed Friday that the 6-5 McDonald’s All-American was cleared by the NCAA Clearinghouse and is a full academic qualifier. Pitino was always optimistic Blackshear would be cleared, but the news must’ve been a relief.
He’s recovering from a shoulder injury and is a little out of shape, but Blackshear’s expected to be an instant contributor. The 5-star prospect averaged more than 30 points and nearly 15 rebounds a game during his senior season in Chicago. The Cards are guard-heavy, but he’s a perfect fit on the wing.
That means Georgia recruit Kevin Ware is the lone guy waiting to get the go-ahead. He’s expected to be Peyton Siva’s backup, but probably not until the second semester.
