UNLV fan’s offer to top recruit? Name of first-born child

UNLV fans are desperate for Shabazz Muhammad to stay in Las Vegas for college. One made a faux Nike Video – a nod to the Jordan Brand’s “Become Legendary” campaign – but another tweeted at Muhammad that he’d name his first-born after him.

Is there an NCAA rule against that?

Doesn’t matter. The top recruit in the class of 2012 doesn’t sound swayed. Just goes with the territory.

“That was pretty crazy,” Muhammad told ESPN. “There’s a lot of stuff that goes on Twitter. Sometimes at Gorman, the UNLV fans come to practice and they have No. 15 jerseys with my name on the back. It’s pretty hectic. The last time we were practicing, there were 200 UNLV fans there.”

UNLV would love to snag Shabazz, but the Rebels have some serious competition for him, as one would expect. Duke, Kansas, Kentucky, UCLA and USC are all after him.

Hm. Maybe it will take a namesake to ensure he stays.
