The NCAA may finally allow coaches to freely communicate with prospects in a way every high school student understands – by texting.
The NCAA D-I Leadership Council reached a consensus on several changes to college hoops recruiting, with deregulating the type of communication between coaches and prospects. That means beaucoup text messaging (among other things). It’s almost enough to wish Bob Knight were still coaching so he could peck away at a keypad.
Also proposed? Allowing programs to scout AAU tournaments during two weekends in April and possibly allowing coaches to work on-court with players during the summer months. That rule that would benefit the game as a whole, not just programs. (More practice time = higher level of play.)
Juniors also could begin making official visits after the NCAA tournament title game is played.
None of these recommendations are a sure thing, however. The NCAA Board of Directors has final approval when it meets in October.
