Texas’ frontcourt gets a much-needed boost

Texas added yet another addition to its 2011 recruiting class Tuesday. Even better? Jaylen Bond’s addition bolsters the Longhorns’ frontcourt depth.

They need it.

Bond, a 6-7, 220-pound forward had committed to Pitt back in April 2010, but withdrew that pledge when the Panthers hit a scholarship crunch. He planned to attend prep school for a year, but Texas – fresh off losing Tristan Thompson and Jordan Hamilton to the NBA – will have his services instead.

He’ll have a chance to contribute immediately, too. Guard J’Covan Brown is the only returning player among its top seven scorers from 2010-11. Bond isn’t as highly rated as other incoming Longhorns like Myck Kabongo, Jonathan Holmes, Julien Lewis and Sheldon McClellan, but Holmes is the only frontcourt player in that group.
