Don’t expect UCLA’s Anderson near L.A.'s big party

Jerime Anderson’s maintaining a low profile. Starting now.

The UCLA guard was suspended indefinitely last week following his arrest related to the theft of a laptop. He’s banned from all team activities and won’t play in the Bruins’ opener (at least).

However, his social plans? Those were still on.

Anderson was the host for the “I Love College Athletes Party” on Aug. 5 at The Proud Bird. Not long after he was arrested, he told fellow party-planner Edgar Garibay that the arrest wouldn’t keep him from the event.

“Jerime will still be there,” he told L.A. Weekly. “I talked to him yesterday, and there’s some bullshit going on, but he’ll be all right.” Plus, the LMU baller adds, UCLA frosh Anthony Stover has confirmed his attendance, as well. (OK, that’s it -- we’re in.)”

Until Anderson’s lawyer caught wind of it.

As ESPN Los Angeles reports, Anderson is no longer hosting the party and wants everyone to know he isn’t coming anywhere near it.

“I am terribly sorry and embarrassed for my conduct and poor judgment that I’ve used recently,” Anderson wrote on his personal Facebook page on July 30. “I have embarrassed my family, friends, teammates, coaches and university and I am extremely sorry for that.

“I will not be attending any social events and I am saddened and disappointed for my lack of judgment,” the post said.

That post was confirmed by the school and his attorney, Jon Artz. I’d call it a smart move. Never too late to start making those.

“Know that I have learned a life lesson that I will never forget and I will do any and everything to make this situation right and come out of the whole thing a better student, teammate, brother, son and most of all a better man,” he wrote. “I hope that I can have your support and prayers through this tough time. God bless.”
