‘No way’ elite 2012 prospect enrolls early at UConn

Andre Drummond’s perhaps the top recruit in the class of 2012. The 6-11, 285-pound center is a ferocious player in the post and would be an immediate asset to any school – which most think will be Connecticut.

But if it is, it won’t be until the fall of 2012 at the earliest.

Rumors had circulated that Drummond might graduate high school early and enroll in school this fall and suit up for Jim Calhoun and the reigning champs. But as he told Mike Anthony of the Hartford Courant, there’s “no way that happens.”

In fact, there’s nothing to indicate that UConn will be his eventual college.

“I’m not going to sit around and play games with the coaches,” he told Jody Demling of the Louisville Courier-Journal. “I’m not going to tell them I’m interested when I’m not. It’s just what I want to do. I don’t want to make everything hectic; I want it to be smooth.

“It’s funny people throw out schools and I’ve never said anything. But people have to say something, so they throw out random schools.”

Drummond’s focused on developing his game and growing up off the court. Right now, he’s playing summer hoops and trying to do something every teenage do in summer.

“I’m just enjoying my time as a kid, really,” he told Anthony.
