Hanner Parea’s rated as a 5-star recruit – and the No. 15 overall prospect in the class of 2012 – by Rivals.com, which is a tribute to his amazing athleticism and size. But only that.
Because his offense needs work.
His shooting and ball-handling are raw. And that’s by his own admission.
“I don’t really take shots,” he told the Indianapolis Star.
“I’ve been working on it. I work on playing around the basket first. But I know I do need to start shooting the ball and handling the ball better and doing more than just playing around the basket.”
But hey, that’s to be expected. Perea, who’s verbally committed to Indiana, hasn’t focused on hoops very long. When he arrived from his native Colombia in 2008, he wasn’t much more than a tall kid. Thanks to time at various hoops camps and high schools, his game’s coming along.
All he needs now is to take about 10,000 jump shots.
