Rotnei Clarke at Butler? That’s a perfect fit

Butler and Rotnei Clarke. That’s a perfect college hoops match.

For the Bulldogs, anyway. It should scare everyone else.

The former Arkansas guard is visiting potential transfer spots in the next few weeks, including Butler, Virginia and Oklahoma, as reported by Jeff Goodman of CBSSports.com. The ACC and Big 12 schools would provide the senior more TV exposure, but Brad Stevens’ Butler program would be the ideal spot for the 6-1 sharpshooter when he is eligible for the 2012-13 season.

Clarke’s a 3-point gunner. He’s attempted at least 200 shots beyond the arc in every season and never made fewer than 39 percent of them. He would’ve been the Bulldogs’ top perimeter shooter the last two seasons, which is no small thing.

They love the 3 even more than Clarke.

Butler’s backed off the 3s the last few years – nearly half of its field-goal attempts in 2007-8 were from deep, which dropped to less than 40 percent the last two seasons – but it’s a team that loves the 3s. Always will in Stevens’ system because it prizes either high-percentage shots or 3s. Those have better payoffs.

And just think if Clarke would’ve been in a Butler uniform this season. That miserable shooting night against UConn in the national title game might never have happened. (We can only hope it never happens again.)

But Clarke’s in no hurry to decide. The only thing he knows for sure is that he’s not visiting Gonzaga, one of the places he considered coming out of high school.

“I’m not trying to rush through the process,” Clarke told Goodman. “I only have one year left to play, so I want to make sure I make the best decision.”

The best decision awaits you in Indy, Rotnei.
