Think Kansas has a loaded 2011-12 schedule? Bellarmine is laughing.
The reigning D-II champs announced Wednesday that its exhibition schedule opens at Duke, then follows with games at Louisville and Xavier.
Yes, those three will all be Top 25 teams next season. Duke and Louisville will be Top 10. Nothing like starting the season with a few challenges.
“Everyone associated with Bellarmine University from our administration to our student body is very appreciative of the opportunity to play three exhibitions against these first class programs,” Bellarmine coach Scott Davenport said in a release. “These tradition-rich programs allow us to prepare to be the best team we can be. It would be impossible for me as a coach to simulate a better teaching environment that the three games we have been fortunate to schedule. Again, I would like to publicly thank Coach (Rick) Pitino, Coach (Mike) Krzyzewski and Coach (Chris) Mack.”
The Knights might not be completely overmatched, though. They did beat Xavier in Cincinnati last season. A victory in one of those three games might just signal another title.
