Kansas missed out on DeAndre Daniels when the 5-star recruit picked UConn on Tuesday. The 6-7 forward could’ve been a worthy addition to a roster in need of perimeter scoring.
Except … some Jayhawks onlookers aren’t sweating it.
A column by Tom Keegan of the Lawrence Journal-World makes the case that the last thing Bill Self needed next year was yet another hyped freshman. Xavier Henry and Josh Selby didn’t really work out. The KU faithful hardly want another version.
From Keegan:
Besides, if Johnson’s jump shot is suddenly a weapon, this might actually work out for Kansas. He’s certainly up for the challenge.
“Honestly the time to go is now (after KU’s personnel losses). I’m one of the people to look up to with Tyshawn, Thomas. We’ve got to carry the team,” Johnson told Gary Bedore. “The team will go as far as we take ’em, so I am willing to take ’em far.”
No Daniels? Maybe that’s not so bad.
