Daniels finally settles on a school, commits to UConn

The DeAndre Daniels recruiting saga is finally over. And the winner is … UConn?

Guess I shouldn’t be too surprised given Jim Calhoun’s interesting spring.

For the last few weeks, it seemed as though the 6-7 forward would be choosing between Texas and Kansas, or maybe even Duke or Oregon.

Nope, the Huskies – who just happened to have a wing spot open up recently – nabbed the top remaining player in the class of 2011, according to Evan Daniels of Scout.com. He’s an athletic, tall wing who can stretch defenses with his outside shooting.

Daniels will reportedly hold a press conference Wednesday.

That gives UConn two impact freshmen, as Daniels will pair with guard Ryan Boatwright to cement the Huskies as a preseason Top 10 team. Both will vie for starting spots on a roster that features the likes of Jeremy Lamb, Shabazz Napier, Roscoe Smith and Alex Oriakhi.

It’ll also end any talk of Calhoun retiring anytime soon. Not with a team that could return to the Final Four.
