Kansas boosts roster again, waits on Daniels’ decision

Kansas’ depleted roster filled out a little bit more Wednesday when Jamari Traylor, a 3-star forward prospect committed to the school.

But an even bigger roster spot could be filled Thursday.

DeAndre Daniels, a 5-star wing prospect and the most coveted player still available, is expected to make his college choice sometime today. He’s likely to choose Texas – the school he originally committed to – but it’ll come down to Texas, Kansas and Oregon. Daniels let the signing period pass without choosing a school, so he won’t sign a Letter of Intent. It’ll be a financial aid agreement. (Brandon Knight signed one with Kentucky this season.)

The father wants to make sure DeAndre makes the right decision,” Dinos Trigonis, Daniels’ AAU coach with Belmont Shore told Adam Zagoria. “The father has to sign the Letter of Intent, so ultimately they have to come to the same page.

“Ultimately, DeAndre and his father will decide what’s best for DeAndre and his basketball and his academic future.”

Even if Kansas misses on Daniels, Traylor will be a welcome addition. He averaged 20 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks last season for IMG Academy and is seen as a terrific athlete.

“He’s a young guy that really wants to be good,” Kansas coach Bill Self told the Lawrence Journal-World. “He’s got a motor very similar to Thomas (Robinson), and he’s an athlete that at 6-7 can basically guard all five positions. We think he will be an immediate and major contributor for us.”
