Everyone loses in Wake Forest sex assault case

Wake Forest officials figured an ex-student’s appearance on the Today Show talking about an alleged sexual assault by two former basketball players wasn’t going to be a proud moment.

But being the center of a report that claimed the school turned a blind eye to sexual assaults probably caught everyone a little off guard.

Details first emerged about Margaret Hurt’s allegations on Monday, and names of the players involved, Gary Clark and Jeff Teague, came out Tuesday. There’s a complete rundown of the incident here. The video of Hurt is below.

School president Nathan Hatch issued a statement after the segment aired. The complete text is here, and includes a list of how the school typically handles such cases and what options victims have when such situations arise.

Also, the attorney for the two players issued a response, which can be found in the Winston-Salem Journal. He says the encounter between Clark and Hurt was consensual.

My take? It’s one big mess without any clear answers and everyone loses. Because you know what? It all sucks when there are no black and white answers. There never are with these types of cases.
