Gottfried lands first prize recruit at N.C. State

Mark Gottfried spent two years out of college hoops before being hired at N.C. State in early April.

Appears he didn’t lose his recruiting touch.

The Wolfpack landed Torian Graham on Monday, a 6-4 shooting guard rated as one of 2012’s elite recruits. Even more important? He’s a local product, playing at Raleigh’s Word of God Academy.

That’s a crucial inroad to make, both for recruits and for fans.

“It means a lot to me to stay home,” Graham told ESPN.com’s Dave Telep. “I can see my family, and they can come to my games. It’s always been my dream to play in front of them. I can think I can help N.C. State build a good program and win a national championship.”

Up next is to have Graham help convince prep teammate T.J. Warren and close friend Rodney Purvis that N.C. State’s the place to be. Purvis is a 5-star prospect. Warren’s rated as a 4-star player. Landing all three would be remarkable, but not unreasonable.
