North Carolina will be the team to beat in 2011-12, but don’t discount their Tobacco Road rivals. Duke’s adding enough talent to cement its spot among the teams to beat.
And it’s even getting players from the class of 2012.
Forward Alex Murphy told Jeff Goodman of FOXSports.com that he’ll meet enough academic requirements to enroll in school this fall and play for the Devils next season.
“It was a difficult decision, but I felt it was best for me,” the 6-9 Murphy said. “It’s a great opportunity.”
No kidding. That gives the Blue Devils four 5-star recruits to its 2011 class, joining the likes of Austin Riuvers, Quinn Cook and Michael Gbinjie as impact players. Four-star forward Marshall Plumlee’s also in that class.
Replacing Nolan Smith, Kyrie Irving and Kyle Singler won’t be easy, but it’s now a lot less difficult. Those Duke-North Carolina showdowns just got even better.
