How do the 2011 elite recruits measure up?

Ten of the top incoming freshmen played at the Nike Hoop Summit this weekend. Six of ‘em – Anthony Davis, Michael Gilchrist, Quinn Coook, Austin Rivers, Brad Beal and Tony Wroten – impressed Dan Hanner enough to make his rundown of the event.

And of that group, Davis impressed him most because of his sheer athleticism and effort. Yes, Davis is raw, but he thrived against equally talented players. It’s little wonder many scouts consider him the top prospect for 2011.

The Kentucky recruit is as big as advertised, too.

Draftexpress.com listed measurements of all 10 players. Davis is “only” 6-9 ½, but his reach is absurd. He’s got a 7-4 wingspan. Considering that Michael Gilchrist – another Kentucky recruit – is only 2 ½ inches shorter, but his wingspan is five inches shorter. And it’s not like Gilchrist’s arms are short.

Also impressive? North Carolina recruit James McAdoo. He’s 6-8 ½ with a 7-1 wingspan. That Tar Heels frontline is going to be even nastier on defense next season.

Anyway, the complete listing is here.
