Jim Calhoun didn’t sound a like a guy ready to retire after Connecticut beat Butler for the national title on Monday.
The same was true when he talked with Dan Patrick on Thursday. “I plan to come back,” Calhoun told Patrick. “I have recruiting trips set up.”
Yet, when he threw out the first pitch at Saturday’s Red Sox-Yankees game, he didn’t appear quite as sure. In fact, he’s still contemplating riding off a champion.
“I can guarantee you I haven’t made my mind up in any way,” Calhoun told the AP. “I’m just going to try to get this team ready for next year and we’ll see what happens.”
Taking that in increments would lead one to believe that the more time Calhoun gets to consider retirement, the more likely it becomes. Or it could be that nothing’s changed and there’s a small, small chance he’ll retire and didn’t want to completely commit to coming back.
I go with the latter. Besides, Jeremy Lamb told DraftExpress that he fully intends on playing next season. That’s enough of a reason to return right there.
