Calipari to the Knicks? Relax, it’s only a rumor

spt-110408-calipari_standard

And so it begins for John Calipari. The NBA rumors, that is.

Plenty of talk swirled around the Kentucky coach during the Final Four about the possibility that he’d jump to the NBA. Now there’s a column by Peter Vecsey of the N.Y. Post throwing out the chance of Calipari could be lured by the Knicks.

Is there anything solid in the story? No. Vecsey’s mostly linking Calipari to the job because of his association with William Wesley and Wesley’s agency representing Chris Paul (who the Knicks are dying to sign this offseason).

But, as Gary Parrish writes, it’s all part of the deal when it comes to Calipari.

These rumors surface every season, partly because of Calipari’s previous NBA stint with the Nets and partly because he’s so damn successful at Kentucky. Combine those two and it’s a never-ending saga Big Blue Nation gets to listen to every summer.

Calipari’s perfectly happy at Kentucky. No reason he shouldn’t be. But he was perfectly happy at Memphis, too.

Sometimes, it’s about the new job, not the current job.
