St. Mary’s Bennett turns down Utah’s offer

Randy Bennett may eventually want to coach a Pac-10 school, but it won’t be Utah.

The Saint Mary’s coach turned down an offer to be the Utes coach, according to CSNBayArea.com. Bennett and Utah had reportedly been in talks since the end of the Mountain West and West Coast Conference tournaments.

That leaves the Utes to focus on three other candidates: BYU’s Dave Rose, ex-Alabama coach Mark Gottfried and Nets assistant Larry Krystkowiak (who used to coach Montana).

In 10 years at the school, Bennett is 208-112, including three NCAA tournament appearances. He’s 106-29 in the last four seasons.

Bennett is under contract with Saint Mary’s through 2020.
