Jay-Z’s visit to Kentucky’s locker room could cost him

A bit of Kentucky news, though it’s more about what Jay-Z – part owner of the New Jersey Nets – did, and not the Wildcats.

As reported by CBSSports.com, and passed along by Kurt Helin over at ProBasketballTalk.com, the NBA is investigating his visit to the Kentucky locker room after a win Sunday over North Carolina. Contact between NBA folk and college players is a no-no. From the report:

The NBA plans to investigate contact between Nets part-owner Jay-Z and members of the Kentucky basketball team after the Wildcats beat North Carolina Sunday to advance to the Final Four, a person with knowledge of the situation told CBSSports.com. The hip-hop mogul’s visit was documented in photos and video showing him congratulating players in the Kentucky locker room, which happened to have been occupied by two potential lottery picks — Brandon Knight and Terrance Jones.

As Helin notes, Jay-Z wasn’t recruiting for the Nets and he has little, if any, basketball influence with the team. He was just there as a fan.

As a result, expect a fine similar to what Danny Ainge received ($30,000) for having a conversation with Kevin Durant’s mother during the 2007 Big 12 tournament.
