CBS going back to Vandross for ‘One Shining Moment’ -- and a nation cheers

Jennifer Hudson’s One Shining Moment didn’t last long.

CBS featured former American Idol singer in its annual post-NCAA tournament video montage last year – much to the chagrin of nearly everyone out there who watched it. So, the network will go back to the beloved Luther Vandross version it used from 2003-09. Just in time for the 25th anniversary of the song, too.

From The Houston Chronicle:

Harold Bryant, CBS Sports’ vice president for production, said Tuesday that network executives elected to go back to the Vandross version, which was used for seven years before CBS rolled out a new version by Jennifer Hudson in 2010.

“Both versions are great. She (Hudson) did a great job,” Bryant said. “We just felt like we wanted to go back to Luther.”

Maybe it’s just me, but I never got what all the fuss was about. The song’s always been rather forgettable. Luther can make almost anything sound good, but neither he nor Hudson can save it. Compare the two below.

If there’s a complaint, it’s that the 2010 montage showed too many images of Hudson singing. Who cares? Show us the highlights!
