Hasselbeck’s son, 5, picked his bracket by mascots -- and it’s thriving

The running joke in most NCAA tournament pools is that the person who wins usually doesn’t watch any basketball. Soon, it’s going to be fact.

The latest example comes from Henry Hasselbeck, the 5-year-old son of Seahawks quarterback Matt Hasselbeck. He’s 103rd among the 5.9 million entries on ESPN.com.

Henry selected his bracket by mascots.

From The Seattle Times:

He went through game-by-game with Dad, usually deciding the winners based on mascots.

Spiders or Commodores? Henry went with the Spiders, explaining how he forecast Richmond’s first-round upset. He liked Washington’s Husky dogs over Georgia’s Bulldogs in the first round.

Not bad. His Final Four wasn’t quite as random. Duke, Kansas and Kentucky were tabbed because of personal reasons. But Henry does have Florida winning it all because he likes alligators.

Simple and effective. Next year, I’m going by team colors.
