Glad Coach K shot down Lakers coaching rumors early

Well, there’s one less coaching rumor to worry about.

Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski shot down any thought of him replacing Phil Jackson in Los Angeles next season, telling reporters “I’m good where I’m at, I’m too old to do anything else.”

Coach K, 64, says he’s never seriously considered leaving Duke for another school. The only times he’s thought about different jobs related to NBA openings. He explains here.

Those times would be 1990 (Gavitt in Boston), 1994 (the Trailblazers) and 2004 with the Lakers.

Considering his age and that he’s about to pass Bob Knight’s all-time D-I’s win record – if he reaches the championship game it’ll be this year – and has another too-flight recruit in Austin Rivers arriving in Durham next season, there’s no reason to leave.

And certainly not with the mileage on Kobe Bryant’s knees.
