Essential reading before the games: Winn’s power rankings

OK, so maybe our Sweet 16 previews weren’t enough. That’s crazy talk, but let’s suppose it’s possible.

In that case, may I offer you Luke Winn’s power rankings from SI.com? The best weekly feature of the college hoops season (sorry Tuesday Truths) is back for the NCAA tournament’s regional semifinals, and in a big way.

In it, Winn ranks the remaining teams, but offers insight on every team that’s related to how they’ll fare tonight.

Example: A screen-by-screen breakdown of how Marquette hounded Xavier’s Tu Holloway last week, holding one of the nation’s best guards to just five points. It’s set up by Marquette coach Buzz Williams raving about what percentage of Xavier’s offense comes from ball screens. In case you couldn’t tell, Williams had the Musketeers scouted perfectly.

Now that he’s had four days to prepare for North Carolina, what will he devise next?

It’s great stuff. Also worth nothing are his takes on Arizona’s scoring efficiency after timeouts, how Brandon Knight differs from John Wall, which teams play their seniors and juniors the most and a video of Kansas coach Bill Self detailing how they isolate one of the Morris twins on the low post.

Read up, then watch for everything during the games.
