Georgetown gets point guard Chris Wright back in time for its first-round NCAA tournament game vs. VCU Friday night. The Hoyas (21-10) have lost four straight since Wright broke his non-shooting hand on Feb. 23 vs. Cincinnati.
Everything should be just fine right? Right…
“Everyone has to do their job,” Hoyas coach John Thompson III said. “It’s not just, ‘OK, you plop Chris into the equation so that means it’s going to be smooth sailing.’ It’s not going to be that easy, especially against the opponent that we have.”
The Rams (24-11) are seeded 11th and are coming off an impressive First Four win vs. USC. They were faster and stronger than the Trojans, who usually ride their physical defense. The Hoyas won’t be nearly as aggressive or as rough.
But they can shoot.
Led by senior guard Austin Freeman, Georgetown’s offense can be as good as any team out there. But they need Wright to thrive. Without him in the lineup, the Hoyas averaged just 51.5 points in their four losses and topped 60 points just once.
Wright won’t step in and be spot on though. He’s healthy, but a little rusty.
“Nothing is restricted or anything. Just go out there and play,” Wright said. “My teammates came up to me and said, ‘You look fine; you played fine.’ I wasn’t favoring it or anything. So I feel good.”
