Jimmermania hit college hoops hard this season. Whether it was lighting up San Diego State, getting defended on Facebook to an extreme degree or being the inspiration for raps, BYU’s senior scoring sensation was the season’s big story.
And it could get even bigger.
If the Cougars win two NCAA tournament games this week, expect Jimmer Fredette to go from star to MEGASTAR.BYU doesn’t play on Sundays, which means it would get a Thursday Sweet 16 game and give every TV network, radio station, blogger and news site four days to spend time wondering how many points he’ll score, why he’s so good, what his name means, etc., etc.
A kid named Jimmer who leads the nation in scoring? Tell me every casual fan who just filled out a bracket won’t be dying to know more.
So we got ahead of the game. Matt James did the damn thing with this Fredette feature, including where Fredette’s unusual name comes from. His given name? James. Jimmer comes from another source.
See? Endless possibilities for an uber-Jimmer week.
