National Bracket Day is a ‘holiday’ I can endorse

The day after Selection Sunday should be a national holiday. (Same goes for the day after the Super Bowl.)

How else are you going to have enough time to sift through the heaps and heaps of reading needed to win your NCAA tournament pool? You’re already going to be a waste at work on Thursday and Friday. Is it worth it to start off the week the same way?

The folks at Turner Sports would like that.

They’re planning National Bracket Day on Monday, which is mostly a way to encourage people to fill out their brackets early if they’re entering the NCAA’s bracket challenge. It’s one of the national contests that requires people to submit picks for the First Four (we’re not doing that), so they’re holding bracket parties around the country.

Yes, it’s a promotion. But bracket parties? I can get behind that promotion.

They’re planning street parties in Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, New York, Philadelphia and Washington, and on the campuses of Duke, Kansas, San Diego State and Ohio State. They’ll have a live online show from noon-1 p.m. ET on NCAA.com.

But the best part of all of this? An even-better version of March Madness of Demand. The site that lets you watch every game online (for free) also is available on the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch.

Man, I love this month.
