Monday’s slate and what to watch

Villanova opened the season 16-1. That seems like ages ago now that the ‘Cats are 21-8 and staring at a likely .500 Big East record.

Not quite the season most envisioned for Jay Wright’s team.

‘Nova closes its regular-season slate with trips to Pitt and Notre Dame (tonight), which are 1-2 in the Big East standings. There’s not much reason to expect Corey Fisher, Maalik Wayns & Co. to solve things now, not with the offense dragging and a defense that isn’t creating any easy scoring opportunities.

Not against a Notre Dame team takes care of the ball and scores as efficiently as nearly any team around. It won’t be a train wreck, but if you’re a ‘Nova fan you still may not want to watch because it’ll be close enough to make you crazy. (7 p.m., ESPN)

Kansas State at Texas, 9 p.m. (ESPN): Raise your hand if you had the Longhorns entering the game with two losses in their last three games AND the Wildcats on a four-game win streak. Oh, put your hand down. You’re lying. A month ago this game had little to no intrigue. Now it’ll be the latest test for a resurgent Jacob Pullen against a suddenly susceptible Texas defense.
