To anyone playing Purdue soon -- good luck. You’ll need it.

JaJaun Johnson doesn’t deal in hyperbole, just facts. His assessment of Purdue after Sunday’s 67-47 thrashing of Michigan State?

“We’re really playing at a high level right now,” he said.

Can’t argue with that. But, um, JaJuan? A colorful adjective might’ve worked this one time because the Boilermakers are killing it right now.

Purdue (24-5 overall, 13-3 in Big Ten) has won six straight, including wins over Ohio State, Wisconsin and the beat-down of the Spartans, who actually had been playing pretty decent ball lately. But Tom Izzo’s team was no match for Purdue.

“The physical nature of that team, I would’ve really enjoyed it if I wasn’t coaching against it,” Izzo said.

Purdue closes its season with games against Iowa and MichiganIllinois, meaning it could enter the Big Dance with almost 30 wins depending on what happens in the Big Ten tournament. That gives Matt Painter’s team an outside shot at a No. 1 seed – way outside – but it’s there.

The offense is clicking (thanks to Johnson and E’Twaun Moore) and the defense is as nasty as ever. Right now, they might be the one team nobody wants to play.
